Copper Expands Regulated Crypto Custody Services into the U.S.
Copper Launches Regulated U.S. Operations
Digital asset infrastructure provider Copper has officially established a regulated presence in the United States. Copper Markets (US) Inc. has received registration as an SEC-registered broker-dealer and is now recognized as a member of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). This milestone enables Copper to offer a range of institutional custody and trading services in the U.S.
Services and Infrastructure Offered
The new U.S. division plans to provide institutional clients with qualified custody services, as well as options for staking, financing, and over-the-counter (OTC) transactions. Clients will also have access to Copper’s ClearLoop Network, which facilitates the management of crypto and tokenized assets as collateral while ensuring these assets remain in custody.
According to the announcement from Copper, the firm’s U.S. branch’s FINRA membership signifies a robust framework for delivering its expansive custody and trading solutions to institutional investors. The registration also signifies a step towards enhancing its services as a qualified custodian, addressing the growing demand for regulated digital asset management in the U.S.
ClearLoop: A Key Component of Operational Strategy
ClearLoop is integral to Copper’s U.S. operational strategy. Launched in 2020, this network allows institutional traders to manage their assets for trading while keeping them secured within Copper’s custody framework. This system offers a solution that significantly limits the capital institutions need to hold directly on exchanges, mitigating the risks associated with counterparty failures.
The introduction of ClearLoop coincided with several collaborations aimed at enhancing trading efficiency while maintaining asset security. For instance, in February 2025, Copper partnered with BitGo to develop a trading model that allowed clients to execute trades without transferring their entire asset balance onto trading venues.
Focus on Staking and Custody
Staking services will also be part of the offerings from Copper Markets (US). The firm has built extensive staking capabilities in recent years, partnering with organizations like Figment and P2P.org to provide institutional staking across various blockchain networks. Now, these services will operate under the oversight of a regulated entity, further expanding Copper’s role in the evolving digital asset landscape.
Growing Demand for Regulated Custody Solutions
Copper’s expansion aligns with a broader trend in the digital asset industry, where numerous firms are pursuing regulated custody frameworks in the United States. Other companies, such as Circle and Kraken, have also taken steps to establish federally regulated trust entities, showcasing the demand for secure and compliant digital asset custody solutions.
As regulatory frameworks around digital assets continue to develop, Copper’s regulated entry into the U.S. market further solidifies its commitment to providing secure and innovative custody and trading services for institutional clients.
