CleanSpark Posts $239M Quarterly Loss Amid 30.5% Revenue Decline

CleanSpark Reports Significant Quarterly Loss

CleanSpark has disclosed a substantial $239 million net loss for its most recent quarter, coinciding with a 30.5% year-over-year drop in revenue. The Nasdaq-listed Bitcoin mining company reported its fiscal performance for the three months ending June 30, with revenue totaling $138 million, falling short of analysts’ estimates of $142.2 million.

Declining Revenue and Investor Reaction

The company’s latest earnings, released on August 7, 2026, illustrate a sharp decrease from $198 million in revenue for the same quarter a year prior. CleanSpark’s net loss translates to $0.89 per basic share, a reversal from a net income of $257 million, or $0.90 per share, reported in the previous year. Following the release, investor confidence wavered, and CleanSpark’s share prices dropped by 5.5% during Thursday’s trading but recovered slightly by about 3% in pre-market trading on Friday, hovering above $13.10.

Expansion into AI Infrastructure

In a strategic pivot despite its mining losses, CleanSpark has broadened its focus into artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure. The firm recently signed a 20-year lease for a 175-megawatt data center in Sandersville, Georgia. This agreement with an unnamed global technology company is projected to generate approximately $6.6 billion in contracted revenue over its term, marking a significant move towards diversifying revenue sources beyond Bitcoin mining.

Previous Financial Performance

CleanSpark’s financial struggles are not new; in the previous quarter ending March 31, the company reported a $378.3 million net loss alongside $136.4 million in revenue. This reflected a change from a loss of $138.8 million and revenue of $181.7 million in the prior-year period. As earnings pressures continue, CleanSpark is adapting, with AI expected to play a crucial role in its business strategy going forward.

Bitcoin Holdings and Market Context

Despite quarterly earnings pressures, CleanSpark has been adding to its Bitcoin holdings. As of the last quarter, the company increased its Bitcoin reserves by 14% compared to the previous year, and its average monthly hashrate rose by 18%. By the end of the second quarter, CleanSpark reported having $925.2 million in Bitcoin and $260.3 million in cash, even as it faced a $224.1 million fair value loss on Bitcoin holdings in previous periods, contributing to its net loss.

Industry-Wide Trends

CleanSpark is among several publicly traded Bitcoin miners diversifying into AI and high-performance computing sectors. Other companies in the industry, such as Marathon Digital Holdings (MARA) and TeraWulf, have also shifted their focus to AI infrastructure amid declining revenues from Bitcoin mining. This trend reflects a broader shift in the sector as miners adapt to changing market conditions.
