World Network Secures $52.5 Million Funding Amid AI Deepfake Challenges
The World Foundation, which oversees the World Network, has announced a successful funding round totaling $52.5 million. This new investment was primarily led by Pantera Capital alongside contributions from Bain Capital Crypto and Eightco Holdings.
Focus on Biometric Integration
This funding round marks a strategic shift for the organization. Previously focused on expanding its network, the World Network is now committed to integrating its biometric screening technologies across various enterprise software platforms to enhance digital verification. The influx of capital will help fortify its infrastructure at a time when the threats of artificial intelligence (AI) and deepfakes are growing.
Previous Funding Achievements
Last year, in May, the World Network raised a staggering $135 million through a private token sale. This initial funding involved large venture capital firms such as a16z and Bain Capital. The network’s token, known as WLD, is currently valued at approximately $0.37 with a market capitalization exceeding $1.3 billion.
The Need for Verification
As AI technology advances and deepfakes become more prevalent, the necessity for robust identity verification has intensified. Cosmo Jiang, a General Partner at Pantera Capital, highlighted that the demand for a Proof of Human system is increasingly apparent, reflecting the heightened focus on enterprise applications.
Sustainable Network Growth
World aims to transition from its network-building phase to a more utility-driven approach. To date, over 39 million people have joined the World Network, with more than 18 million individuals verified through its unique Orb technology. The network has already issued over 475 million World ID proofs, as it continues to expand its enterprise-ready infrastructure.
Future Plans and Upgrades
In its ongoing mission, the company has recently unveiled what it deems to be its most significant enhancement to the World ID system, emphasizing a comprehensive approach to proving human identity for consumers, businesses, and AI agents alike. This development is a direct response to the ongoing challenges posed by bots and deepfakes, which the organization is actively addressing through its initiatives aimed at improving authentication procedures in digital interactions.
