White House to Discuss Ethics Section of Clarity Act Amidst Senate Negotiations

White House Meeting to Address Clarity Act Ethics Section

Senior officials from the White House are preparing for a critical meeting with U.S. senators aimed at resolving the contentious ethics provision of the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act. This meeting is scheduled to occur in the final weeks before the Senate gears up for a lengthy summer recess.

Contentions and Concerns

The ethics section has emerged as a significant roadblock in the legislative process, with demands from Democrats to impose restrictions on senior government officials’ personal business interests in the cryptocurrency sector. These limitations have taken on increased importance following President Donald Trump’s disclosure of earning over $1 billion from his involvement in the crypto industry in 2025. Critics argue that without addressing these ties, the bill could face substantial opposition.

Negotiative Hurdles

Despite ongoing negotiations, a consensus has yet to be reached about the ethics provision, which is crucial for garnering bipartisan support. Senators Ruben Gallego and Angela Alsobrooks, both of whom have previously expressed their conditional support for the bill, have reiterated that they will not back its final passage without appropriate ethics stipulations in place.

Upcoming Discussions

Officials, including possibly Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, are expected to meet with Senators on Thursday, aiming to bridge the gap on the ethics concerns. While a near-final version of the Clarity Act was anticipated to circulate among lawmakers, further discussions could delay its introduction.

Deadline Approaching

The urgency of reaching an agreement is heightened as the Senate plans to reconvene after an extended break in early August, leaving limited time for any final adjustments to the legislation. Senate Majority Leader John Thune has expressed intentions to advance discussions on the Clarity Act later this month, irrespective of the finalized language.
