Vlad Tenev’s X Account Hacked to Promote Fake Memecoin

Hacking Incident Targets Robinhood CEO’s X Account

The X account of Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev was hacked on Thursday, leading to the promotion of a fake memecoin called Vladhood ($VLAD). This post, which has since been deleted, inaccurately claimed that the token would be listed on the Robinhood platform.

Details of the Hack

In the compromised post, the token was described as the “official Robinhood chain mascot” and included a blockchain wallet address. The promotion stated, “Does Robinhood love memes? The answer is yes,” prior to Robinhood officially confirming the hack.

Robinhood addressed the situation through an announcement on X, stating, “Heads up: Our CEO Vlad Tenev’s X account was compromised and posted a fake promotion for a meme coin. We’re working with X to restore access, and the post has been removed.” The company is actively seeking to regain control over Tenev’s account.

Context of the Incident

This hacking incident comes during a surge of interest in Robinhood’s newly launched blockchain network, which has become a hotspot for speculative trading. Since its inception earlier this month, the platform has reportedly attracted over $700 million in assets encompassing stablecoins, tokenized stocks, and various memecoins.

The blockchain has witnessed rapid growth, surpassing 300,000 daily active addresses and processing approximately 10 million transactions in a single day, as shown by data from a Dune dashboard created by Entropy Advisors. Consequently, this explosive activity has spurred a wave of new memecoins aiming to capitalize on the network’s climbing popularity.
