Trump Media Transfers 2,628 BTC Amid Shrinking Holdings

Significant Bitcoin Transfer by Trump Media

On August 2, 2026, wallets linked to Trump Media transferred 2,628 Bitcoin, valued at approximately $165 million, to Crypto.com, according to blockchain analysts from Lookonchain. While the transaction has been confirmed, there has been no official company filing verifying whether it constituted a sale.

Current Holdings and Potential Financial Impact

As of March, Trump Media had reported a holding of 9,542.16 BTC, which included 4,260.73 BTC pledged as collateral for convertible notes. Following the latest transfer, the total Bitcoin holdings have reportedly decreased to about 4,261 BTC. Over the past seven months, it is estimated that Trump Media has disposed of 7,281 BTC.

Uncertainty Surrounding Transfers

Analysts from Lookonchain noted that the transfer does not confirm a sale; it could indicate custody changes, collateral arrangements, or other types of internal transactions. They indicated that the estimated cumulative loss from Trump’s Bitcoin transactions could be around $555 million, incorporating both realized and unrealized losses.

Background on Trump Media’s Bitcoin Holdings

Trump Media originally acquired 11,542 BTC for roughly $1.37 billion, averaging about $118,522 per coin. However, the latest quarterly filing disclosed as of March 31 indicates a value of $647.1 million, down from its original acquisition cost, with no changes reported in coin quantity during the first quarter.

Regulatory Considerations and Business Development

Following the transfer, Trump Media launched Truth API, a paid service designed for institutional clients to access time-sensitive posts from Truth Social. This service raises regulatory concerns, prompting U.S. Senators Adam Schiff and Elizabeth Warren to request an SEC investigation into potential violations of federal securities laws.

In previous statements, Trump Media reported a $405.9 million net loss for the first quarter, partially attributed to unrealized markdowns across their cryptocurrency and securities. Further clarification on whether the August 2 transfer was a sale or another form of transaction is expected in their next quarterly filing.
