Solana Faces Potential $70 Decline Amid Weak Demand

Solana Faces Potential $70 Decline Amid Weak Demand

On August 3, 2026, the price of Solana (SOL) fell to $72.55, marking a decline of 1.47% as market demand weakened. This drop places SOL at risk of a further decrease towards the $70 level due to ongoing capital outflows and diminishing buyer interest.

Price Movement and Market Indicators

The recent price fluctuation saw Solana trading between an intraday high of $73.67 and a low of $71.98. The price drop extends a broader downward trend that began from a July peak near $82.50. With prices now below the daily Bollinger Band midpoint of $75.09, previously a support level, the market has turned bearish.

The Chaikin Money Flow (CMF) indicator fell to -0.17, suggesting that the selling pressure is outpacing purchasing interest. This weak demand was also observed in the decline of spot trading activity, as analysts noted that a rebound in price did not coincide with a recovery in demand.

Technical Analysis and Moving Averages

Solana now trades below all significant moving averages on its 4-hour chart. The 20-period SMA is positioned at $72.96, with additional resistance seen at the 50-period SMA of $73.88 and the 100-period SMA at $75.06. The 200-period SMA at $76.79 serves as a formidable barrier for any upward movement.

For Solana to move away from its current trend of lower highs, it needs to reclaim the $76.79 level; failure to do so could result in further downward movement, particularly if the price breaks below $71.49, which could trigger a drop towards the $70 mark.

Market Catalysts and Outlook

Additionally, proposals aimed at increasing Solana’s fee burn and token disinflation are set to be voted on, which could impact SOL’s supply dynamics significantly. The proposals could potentially double the annual disinflation rate to 30% and substantially increase daily token burns.

The overall market sentiment is influenced by external factors such as U.S. Treasury yields and regulatory expectations, which can affect investment in high-beta assets like Solana. Despite some glimmers of hope in the upcoming fee proposals, the near-term outlook for SOL remains bearish under $75.06.
