Robinhood Leads Tokenized Stocks Surge with 752K Holders

Robinhood’s Impact on Tokenized Stock Growth

Tokenized stock adoption has surged remarkably, with the number of holders reaching 752,000 across major platforms, marking a 92% increase in just 30 days. This growth was propelled largely by Robinhood, which attracted around 328,000 holders, capturing a significant 44% market share.

Robinhood vs. Competitors

Despite leading the platform in holder count, Robinhood’s tokenized stocks represented only $44 million in total asset value. This stands in stark contrast to competitor Ondo, which holds $857 million in tokenized assets.

Robinhood’s average position per holder is approximately $134, indicating that its growth has mainly attracted retail investors retaining smaller positions. Meanwhile, other platforms like Securitize and xStocks have notably larger average positions, reflecting institutional interest.

Platform Comparisons and Valuation

When comparing average balances, Securitize showed an average position of about $4.9 million among its holders, while xStocks reported an average of $1,900. Ondo, providing over 440 tokenized stocks and ETFs, demonstrates broader asset exposure, though it does not grant holders rights to the underlying securities.

In addition, xStocks has recently expanded its offerings globally, currently supporting 626 stocks and ETFs, and is set to broaden its reach beyond US markets.

Regulatory Landscape and Future Implications

As tokenized stock offerings gain traction, US regulators are navigating questions regarding ownership rights. Ondo’s international stock tokens, for example, restrict US investors, reflecting the complex landscape of tokenized securities regulation.

The SEC has also cautioned that third-party tokens can differ significantly in rights and protections compared to traditional shares. Recent appeals from prominent transfer-agent groups urge prioritization of issuer-backed tokenized products, advocating for clear regulations distinguishing them from unaffiliated tokens.

The future of tokenized stocks may heavily depend on how the SEC addresses these distinctions, potentially determining if the rapid growth in holders can continue within a regulated US environment.
