Record Rise in Tokenized Stock Trading Fueled by QQQB Token

Surge in Tokenized Stock Trading

Tokenized stock trading witnessed a significant uptick in July, increasing by 288% to reach a record volume of $11.3 billion. This surge was predominantly driven by the trading of a single token, the QQQB, which is linked to Invesco’s QQQ ETF, accounting for 82% of the total trading volume.

Influential Role of QQQB Token

The QQQB token, which began trading on Binance on June 30, generated an impressive $9.27 billion in trading activity. Without this token’s influence, the overall volume for tokenized equities would have been approximately $2.03 billion, marking a decline of about 30% compared to June’s implied total of $2.91 billion.

Other Tokenized Stocks Performance

In contrast, trading volumes for other tokenized stocks showed a downturn. Specifically, xStocks volume fell to $335 million from $1.55 billion, while Ondo recorded $792 million and Backpack‘s volume stood at $479 million as per CoinDesk Data’s latest report.

Market Context and Volatility

The underlying Invesco QQQ Trust experienced a decline of 6.6% in July, in relation to broader market movements where the Nasdaq Composite fell by 3.2% and the S&P 500 slipped by 0.1%. In addition to the volatility in AI and semiconductor stocks, the trading of the QQQ ETF was amplified by the recent FOMC meetings and earnings reports from major technology firms.

Advantages of Tokenized Equities

The appeal of tokenized equities, like QQQB, lies in their capability for round-the-clock trading. They allow non-U.S. investors access to U.S. markets, especially in regions where access to traditional brokerage services for U.S. securities may be restricted.
