The Midnight token experienced a 19% rebound within 24 hours after a significant drop caused by the recent Wanchain bridge exploit. Initially, the exploit led to a staggering 290 million NIGHT tokens being drained, causing the price of NIGHT to plummet by approximately 43% to an all-time low.

Impact of the Hack

Following the hack, which occurred on a legacy bridge within the Binance-Cardano corridor, NIGHT recovered to trade around $0.022. Charles Hoskinson, the CEO and Founder of Input Output, responded to the incident by emphasizing the need for a reevaluation of industry security standards.

Hoskinson’s Call for Change

Hoskinson criticized media coverage that focused solely on the crash without acknowledging the subsequent rebound. He referred to the hack as a “case of the Mondays” in an interview while still recognizing its seriousness in the ongoing security challenges facing software in the crypto space. He highlighted a troubling trend of increasing vulnerabilities, particularly in the Linux kernel, which he attributed to the rise of AI-driven exploit discovery.

The Ongoing Threat of Bridge Hacks

Bridge hacks have plagued the crypto industry for years, having led to the theft of billions of dollars across various attacks such as those on Ronin, Wormhole, and Nomad, which together resulted in losses exceeding $1.5 billion.
