Mantle Joins Mass Migration to Chainlink CCIP, Transferring Over $2.5 Billion
Mass Migration to Chainlink CCIP
More than $7.2 billion in cross-chain and wrapped assets have transitioned from LayerZero to Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) since May 2026. The latest project to join this exodus is Mantle, announcing the migration of its $2.5 billion Super Portal from LayerZero’s Omnichain Fungible Token (OFT) standard to Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Token (CCT) standard.
Key Migrations
Projects participating in this migration wave include Kelp, which alone is transferring over $1 billion, as well as Lombard and Solv Protocol. The reasons for these migrations stem from increasing scrutiny of LayerZero’s bridge configurations following a significant exploit of $292 million earlier this year.
Mantle’s Strategic Shift
Mantle’s initiative aims to improve security and control over token transfer settings associated with its Super Portal. This portal facilitates the transfer of MNT tokens between Ethereum and Solana, with future support for additional networks under development. The MNT token, with over $2.5 billion in value locked, will be part of this migration.
Impact of Migration
The migration underscores the growing movement towards enhancing security in blockchain transactions, particularly as bridges between different networks pose significant risks to user assets. Notable transfers reported during this migration include:
- Kelp: $1.5 billion
- Solv Protocol: $700 million in tokenized bitcoin
- Re: $475 million
- Kraken: $330 million in wrapped assets
- Lombard: Over $1 billion
- Virtuals Protocol: $700 million
- Yuzu Money: $54.5 million
The migration of Mantle’s Super Portal is set to take place from July 9 to July 15, during which the portal will be temporarily suspended. However, existing MNT on Ethereum and Solana, along with activity on Byreal and Bybit, will remain unaffected.
Conclusion
Emily Bao, a key advisor at Mantle, emphasized the need for robust infrastructure as the market for tokenized financial assets continues to grow. By migrating to Chainlink’s CCIP, Mantle is looking to secure its MNT transfers and gain superior control over token pools and transfer protocols.
