Hanwha Secures Largest Stake in Securitize Amid Tokenization Boom
Hanwha Emerges as Major Shareholder in Securitize
Hanwha Group has established itself as the largest shareholder in Securitize, a firm specializing in tokenization, with a combined ownership stake of 9.6% across its various affiliates and investment vehicles, as revealed in recent filings to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
Details of the Stake Acquisition
The ownership, amounting to approximately 15.69 million shares, places Hanwha ahead of notable competitors, including Blockchain Capital and Securitize’s co-founder, Carlos Domingo. The respective stakes for Blockchain Capital and Domingo stand at 6.0% and 5.4%.
Rather than being concentrated in a single entity, the stake is distributed across multiple Hanwha affiliates. Specifically, Hanwha Asset Management’s private equity fund owns 5.9%, H Foundation, part of Hanwha Systems, holds 3.1%, and Hanwha Investment & Securities controls approximately 0.6%.
Investment Strategy in Web3
This significant acquisition is part of Hanwha Investment & Securities’ broader strategy to enhance its presence in the Web3 sector, which includes recent investments in companies like Xangle, Kresus, and digital asset firm Digital Asset. Earlier this year, Hanwha invested 597.8 billion won in Dunamu, the parent company of major cryptocurrency exchange Upbit, increasing its ownership stake to 9.84%.
Securitize’s Growth in Tokenized Securities
As Hanwha expands its holdings, Securitize is simultaneously advancing its tokenized securities initiatives. The firm made headlines recently as it became the first newly listed company to tokenize its common stock on its first day of trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker SECZ. This move included issuing blockchain-based versions of its shares on both the Solana and Avalanche networks.
Strategic Partnerships and Investment Outlook
Securitize’s ongoing partnerships with firms such as BlackRock and Apollo reflect the growing institutional interest in tokenization. The company manages over $4 billion in on-chain assets and supports more than 650 tokenized funds. Hanwha’s involvement indicates a serious commitment to leveraging advancements in blockchain technology and digital asset tokenization.
Meanwhile, the firms maintain independent investment strategies among Hanwha affiliates. According to a spokesperson from Hanwha Investment & Securities, the decision regarding share sales will be made once they become eligible under SEC regulations.
