Fun CEO Envisions Future Without On-Ramps or Bridges in Crypto Payments

Alex Fine, the CEO of Fun, has shared his vision for the future of crypto payments, suggesting that traditional on-ramps and bridges will fade away as the industry evolves. Fine argues that the future will focus on unified payment infrastructures that simplify the user experience by eliminating the complexities of blockchain interactions.

Shift Towards Unified Payment Systems

According to Fine, **standalone crypto on-ramps and bridges are becoming obsolete** as platforms integrate payment processing directly into their applications. He emphasizes that the next generation of crypto applications will allow users to conduct transactions seamlessly, without needing to navigate separate processes for funding, bridging, or converting currencies.

“The age of on-ramps will be completely dead and the age of external bridging sites will be dead,” Fine said.

Fine’s company, Fun, plays a crucial role in this evolution by providing the backend technology that connects traditional payment systems with blockchain networks. Unlike consumer-facing exchanges or wallets, Fun offers APIs that let fintech and crypto applications embed essential functions such as deposits, withdrawals, and checkouts directly into their products.

Building the Infrastructure Behind Crypto Applications

Fun’s infrastructure supports a variety of platforms, powering **100% of deposits and withdrawals on Polymarket** and facilitating significant transaction volumes, including more than $3 billion monthly. The company has raised over $75 million in funding, reinforcing its position in the crypto payments landscape.

Fine highlights the fragmentation in today’s crypto payment ecosystem, where developers often juggle multiple card processors and blockchain assets. He believes that rather than relying on individual systems, developers should optimize around the goal of providing users with rapid and hassle-free funding experiences.

The Future of Payments and Risk Management

Fine compares today’s complex Web3 payment systems to the simpler Web2 alternatives, stating, **”In Web2, payments are highly fungible”** while Web3 presents unique challenges with varied payment methods.

“People don’t care about converting fiat to crypto; they care about taking an action inside an app. The conversion is just something that has to happen,” Fine noted.

He predicts that as payment processes continue to integrate within applications, standalone on-ramps and bridge interfaces will also lose relevance. Companies that specialize in converting fiat to crypto face obsolescence if users are not actively engaged in the conversion process.

Future Prospects for Prediction Markets

Looking beyond payment systems, Fine sees potential growth in the areas of prediction markets and tokenized equities, stating that these sectors are still in the early stages of their development. He suggests that prediction markets currently represent around **10% of their ultimate market potential** and predicts that as liquidity improves, the platforms will expand to accommodate a broader range of events and enhance their utility as hedging tools.

“As liquidity expands, you’ll see millions of potential event contracts. That’s what ultimately makes these platforms more valuable,” Fine explained.
