Coinbase Enhances Payment Options for Businesses with AI Agents
Coinbase Simplifies Payments for AI Agents
Coinbase has announced a new feature that enables its corporate customers to accept payments from AI agents. The rollout, which began this week, utilizes the x402 protocol developed by the exchange itself.
Facilitating the AI Agent Economy
As part of this initiative, Coinbase aims to bridge gaps in what it identifies as the AI agentic economy. This new capability allows businesses to accept payments in USDC from these agents without any additional setup, enhancing the overall functionality of Coinbase Payments.
Enhancing the User Experience
In an interview, Sid Coelho-Prabhu, Head of Coinbase Business, explained how this new feature mirrors traditional shopping experiences. He noted, “We are delivering that experience for the new online agentic economy.” By allowing agents to create their own wallets and utilize Coinbase’s infrastructure, businesses can now make their inventories available through an agent-friendly checkout process.
Features for Users and Developers
For users, Coinbase is enhancing engagement with the crypto markets by providing a live order list that displays an agent’s open and active orders in real time, making it easier to track transactions. Users can issue commands in plain language, directing the agent to execute trades based on market conditions.
Additionally, the launch of the x402 SDK from the Coinbase Developer Platform allows developers to quickly integrate x402 payment acceptance into their applications with minimal code, thereby expanding the accessibility of these payment options.
