Blockchain.com Secures Full Virtual Asset Service Provider License in Cayman Islands
Blockchain.com Secures Full VASP License in the Cayman Islands
Blockchain.com has officially received a definitive Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) custody license from the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA), marking a significant expansion of its regulated crypto services. The license was granted after the company fulfilled all regulatory conditions on July 22, 2026.
Expanded Services from the Cayman Islands
The newly obtained license permits Blockchain.com to offer a range of regulated services including custody, staking, and exchange services in the Cayman Islands. This development comes in addition to the company’s recent regulatory achievements such as gaining approval under the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework in Europe and registering with the UK Financial Conduct Authority.
Transition from Conditional to Full License
This definitive license replaces the conditional approval that Blockchain.com received in December 2025. The company had been operating under VASP registration in the Cayman Islands since May 2022, making this a pivotal step in establishing its full regulatory status.
Core Offerings: Custody and Staking
As per the license, Blockchain.com can now provide institutional custody solutions, which offer secure storage for organizations dealing with cryptocurrency assets. Additionally, both institutional and retail users will have access to staking services, enabling participation in blockchain network validation and the potential to earn staking rewards.
Regional Growth and Local Presence
Alongside its licensing advancements, Blockchain.com is enhancing its local presence through a partnership with TechCayman, aimed at supporting its operations in the Cayman Islands. This partnership will facilitate the hiring of the company’s first local employee, signaling a commitment to establishing a permanent footprint in the region.
Recent Regulatory Activities
This license is part of a broader strategy for Blockchain.com, which has been actively pursuing regulatory approvals across various markets throughout 2026. In addition to its expansion in the Cayman Islands, the company confidentially filed for a potential initial public offering with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in May, an indication of its growing ambitions in the crypto sector.
Blockchain.com, founded in 2011, has processed over $1.1 trillion in transactions and serves more than 43 million verified users globally. With this latest license, the company aims to further strengthen its operations and provide robust services to its clients in the expanding digital asset landscape.
