Bitcoin Surpasses $64,000 as Markets Await Fed Decision
Bitcoin has successfully cleared the $64,000 mark during trading hours in Asia, registering a 1% increase on the day. This upward movement comes as traders anticipate the Federal Reserve’s decision regarding interest rates, set to be announced at 2 p.m. ET.
Market Sentiment Ahead of the Decision
According to data from CoinDesk, throughout the market, there was a green trend, with ether rising by 1.7% to reach $1,909 and XRP leading among major cryptocurrencies with a gain of 2.6%.
The prevailing expectation among market participants is that the Federal Reserve will maintain its rate between 3.50% and 3.75%, marking a sixth consecutive meeting in a holding pattern. Approximately 70% of traders predict this outcome; however, about 30% are anticipating a quarter-point hike.
Risk of a Surprise Rate Hike
Financial firms, including Citadel Securities and UBS, are among those suggesting the possibility of an unexpected increase. Citadel Securities has indicated a belief that a hike could occur this week to reinforce Warsh’s credibility in combating inflation. UBS has echoed this sentiment, stating that such a move would not come as a surprise.
The situation remains dynamic, with various analysts and traders closely monitoring the outcomes of the Fed’s forthcoming decision and its implications for the cryptocurrency market.
