Bitcoin Maintains Stability Above $65,000 Amid Iran-Oman Deal Speculation
Bitcoin Maintains Stability Above $65,000
Bitcoin has stabilized above the $65,000 mark, trading at $65,209, as positive developments from the Middle East lift investor sentiment and enhance risk assets. The cryptocurrency’s upward movement is closely linked with a 0.45% increase in Nasdaq 100 index futures following reports suggesting that Iran may be ready to strike a deal with Oman to reopen the crucial Strait of Hormuz.
Market Performance Overview
The crypto market began the week positively, with Bitcoin recording a 0.54% increase from midnight UTC. Similarly, Ethereum also gained 0.86%, rising to $1,925. This uptick in Bitcoin’s price is perceived as a recovery following a tumultuous July.
Futures Market and Investor Sentiment
The derivatives market is showing a tentative bullish trend, as the long-short ratio for taker volume in crypto futures has shifted, with longs now representing 52% of the trading flow. However, activity in the Bitcoin futures market remains subdued, with open interest falling back below 750,000 BTC. Despite this, annualized funding rates remain positive, indicating a bullish tilt among limited market participants.
In contrast, Ethereum’s open interest has dropped to 13.35 million tokens, the lowest since early May, reflecting ongoing caution among traders.
Rising Activity in Solana and Monero
Meanwhile, Solana futures have seen renewed activity, with open interest rebounding to 64.60 million tokens, signaling fresh capital inflows. This comes as Solana’s price recovers above $76.
Monero (XMR) has also made headlines, surging 5% to exceed $400, with futures open interest showing a similar upward trend, highlighting strong buyer interest.
Volatility and Options Landscape
The Bitcoin 30-day implied volatility index (BVIV) fell to a year-to-date low of 35.59%, reflecting market expectations of calm. However, some traders note that protective put options are still commanding a premium over calls, indicating lingering uncertainty.
Options volume shows a notable investor preference for Bitcoin calls, especially at strike prices of $68,000 and $70,000. Ethereum options exhibit a similar trend.
Altcoin Market Movements
In the altcoin market, Pump.fun (PUMP) has taken the lead with a 5.39% gain, boosting its market cap above $1.1 billion. Other notable performers include Ethena (ENA), which rose 4.84%, and NEAR protocol, showing a 3.79% increase.
Lighter (LIT), however, reduced its value by 0.94% amid ongoing corrections following a significant rally in July.
As the altcoin season indicator currently shows 37/100, down from a recent peak, the market appears to be closely watching Bitcoin’s trajectory as it seeks to potentially surpass the $68,000 to $72,000 range.
