Ark Invest Acquires $13.9M in Circle Shares, Reduces Robinhood Holdings
Ark Invest Increases Stake in Circle and Block
Ark Invest has made a significant move by purchasing nearly $13.9 million worth of shares in Circle Internet Group while simultaneously reducing its stake in Robinhood Markets. The investment management firm, led by Cathie Wood, has allocated a total of approximately $15.4 million across its positions in these three companies.
Details of the Transactions
According to Ark Invest’s latest trading disclosure, the firm acquired 220,012 shares of Circle through its ARK Innovation ETF (ARKK), ARK Next Generation Internet ETF (ARKW), and ARK Fintech Innovation ETF (ARKF). Utilizing Circle’s closing price of $63.22 on Tuesday, the investment amounted to around $13.9 million.
Additionally, Ark Invest bought 19,029 shares of Block Inc. valued at roughly $1.52 million based on its closing price of $79.99. Meanwhile, the firm trimmed its Robinhood position by 27,742 shares, selling them for about $3.15 million as the stock rose to $113.45 on the same day.
Impact of Recent Developments on Circle
Circle’s recent price performance has been tumultuous; although the stock edged up 0.35% on Tuesday, it has experienced a decline of 24.17% over the past month amid concerns following the launch of the Open USD stablecoin project. Analysts’ opinions on Circle are mixed, with Mizuho downgrading it to Underperform while reducing its price target from $85 to $50, citing potential competition pressures.
Continued Strategy of Selective Stock Acquisitions
This purchase is consistent with Ark Invest’s recent investment strategy of selectively acquiring shares during price declines. On June 26, for instance, Ark had previously increased its holdings in Circle, Coinbase, Bullish, and Robinhood after their prices had dropped. The firm has also recently made substantial buys during other downturns, including roughly $18.4 million in Coinbase and $32.5 million in SpaceX.
Rebalancing Strategy Explained
Ark Invest manages its exchange-traded funds under a portfolio guideline that keeps any single stock holding to a maximum of 10% of a fund’s assets. As market conditions fluctuate, Ark periodically rebalances its positions to maintain these target allocations, which explains the recent adjustments in its Robinhood investments.
