RedotPay Launches XRP Card: A Collateralized Lending Tool

Introduction of the XRP Card

RedotPay has unveiled a new card that allows users to leverage their XRP holdings without having to sell them. This product offers a distinctive way to access liquidity while maintaining exposure to the cryptocurrency market. The card operates through the Visa network, enabling users to spend their credits anywhere Visa is accepted.

How It Works

The RLUSD card allows users to pledge their XRP as collateral at a 50% loan-to-value ratio. For instance, if an individual has $1,000 worth of XRP, they can receive a credit line of $500, settled in Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin. This is accomplished on the XRP Ledger, with transactions processed continuously as the card is used.

Maintaining ownership of their XRP while using this credit offers holders some key advantages: it preserves potential upside gains and defers capital gains tax, as loans do not constitute a sale of the asset. However, users must acknowledge the risks associated with leveraging a volatile asset like XRP.

Market Context and Trends

With over 8 million users across more than 100 countries and around $12 billion in annual transaction volume, RedotPay is not a new player in the space. The company has reported a substantial increase in stablecoin transactions, boasting an 80% rise in card volume just in 2026, indicating a robust demand for such financial products.

Critical Considerations

The card offers a unique proposition, but users must heed potential risks, especially regarding liquidation processes. The mechanics of borrowing mean that if the value of XRP falls significantly, users could face liquidations on their pledged collateral without adequate notice. Critical questions arise around the thresholds for additional collateral requirements and repayment demands, which were not detailed in the launch information.

This adds a layer of uncertainty, as retail users may underestimate the complexities of collateralized loans, particularly when dealing with a volatile asset such as XRP. In markets with established financial instruments, such loan conditions are typically well understood and regulated, a contrast to the current offering by RedotPay.

Looking Ahead

The true test of the RLUSD card will come when faced with market fluctuations. Previous experiences with crypto-backed loans signal that users often underestimate the risks until they are confronted with the realities of a downturn. If the XRP market experiences a significant drop, it could trigger a cascade of liquidations.

RedotPay’s entry into the consumer credit space with the XRP card is a significant move within the evolving landscape of digital finance, promising both opportunities and challenges for retail users.
