Coinbase Expands Workforce in Singapore Amid Market Changes

Coinbase to Boost Singapore Operations

Coinbase has announced plans to expand its Singapore office workforce from approximately 150 to around 200 employees by the end of 2026. This decision follows the official opening of a new office located at One Raffles Quay on July 22, 2026.

Focus on Key Areas for Hiring

The hiring initiative aims to enhance various departments including engineering, customer service, relationship management, and institutional sales. Singapore country director Hassan Ahmed emphasized that this growth reflects the company’s commitment to investing in Singapore, one of the world’s most recognized financial centers.

Investment in Singapore’s Market

Ahmed shared with The Business Times that Singapore stands out as a critical market for Coinbase, citing its regulatory clarity and favorable business environment as key drivers for ongoing investment. He stated, “This new office reflects our long-term confidence in Singapore as a strategic hub for innovation, talent, and responsible growth across the Asia Pacific.”

Context of Global Workforce Changes

This expansion comes despite recent global workforce reductions at Coinbase, where approximately 14% of staff were let go earlier this year due to market volatility and a shift toward artificial intelligence integration. Ahmed reassured that despite these challenges, the company continues to see substantial opportunities in the Asian crypto market.

Regulatory Environment and Future Prospects

Coinbase’s relationship with Singapore’s regulatory authorities has matured over the years. The exchange first received a temporary exemption from licensing requirements in March 2020 and secured a full Major Payment Institution license in October 2023, enabling it to operate fully as a digital payment token service provider.

Looking Ahead

In light of evolving market demands and increasing interest from institutional investors, Ahmed noted the significant attention on tokenization and the need for continuous trading capabilities. Furthermore, Coinbase is exploring potential integrations of artificial intelligence with blockchain technology to enhance operational efficiency.

As Coinbase navigates these developments, it continues to pursue new opportunities in Singapore, aligning its objectives with the region’s growing embrace of digital assets.
