Needham Sets Bold $250 Target for SpaceX Amid AI Concerns

Needham Boosts SpaceX Price Target Amid Stock Market Concerns

Needham has increased its price target for SpaceX shares to $250, maintaining a buy rating despite escalating fears about an artificial intelligence (AI) stock bubble that might disrupt financial markets. This optimistic outlook comes as SpaceX’s stock has stabilized above its initial public offering (IPO) price.

Responses to AI Bubble Warnings

As concerns mount regarding a potential AI bubble, Bank of England Governor David Bailey has expressed that a significant crash in AI stocks could adversely affect the economy and necessitate adjustments in monetary policy. Despite these warnings, investor interest in AI-related companies persists.

Currently, SpaceX shares are trading around $136, having recently dropped to the IPO price of $135. This decline follows a notable dip from post-listing highs, with shares having initially fell below their Nasdaq debut price of $150 on July 7 as profit-taking by investors continued.

Needham’s Rationale for the Target Adjustment

Needham’s decision to raise SpaceX’s price target is attributed to anticipated developments linked to Elon Musk’s AI initiatives and SpaceX’s upcoming launch schedule. The release of Grok 4.5 on July 8, which corresponds with Musk’s efforts to enhance the company’s AI program, is seen as bolstering investor confidence.

Additionally, the scheduled Starship Flight 13 launch on July 16 could further drive commercial opportunities for SpaceX, offering additional support for the stock’s valuation.

Technical Analysis of SpaceX Shares

Technically, SpaceX shares are fluctuating within a descending channel, which has characterized the stock’s movement since early July. Although the trend indicates bearish pressure, the stock recently rebounded from a support level near $135. Indicators such as the Relative Strength Index suggest that selling pressure is easing, with some signs of recovery.

The next critical resistance for buyers is situated around $137 to $138. A breach of this level may pave the way for a retest of the debut price of $150. However, if support at $135 fails, the downtrend may resume.

Institutional Interest Despite Declines

Institutional investors have shown increasing interest in SpaceX despite the recent stock decline. Notably, ARK Invest acquired approximately $21.3 million worth of SpaceX shares on July 13, adding to its significant position built during the company’s Nasdaq debut.
