Ripple Partners with x402 Foundation to Enhance AI Payment Integration for XRP
Ripple Partners with x402 Foundation to Advance AI Payment Solutions
On July 14, 2026, Ripple announced it has joined the x402 Foundation as a Premier Member, aligning itself with major players such as Coinbase, Google, and Mastercard. This collaboration aims to bolster the use of XRP and RLUSD in the development of an open payment standard for artificial intelligence (AI) agents.
Expanding Payment Infrastructure for AI Agents
The x402 Foundation was launched under open governance following a contribution from Coinbase, establishing a new protocol aimed at facilitating digital payments via AI systems. Ripple emphasized the increasing role of AI agents in handling transactions and underscored the necessity for efficient payment infrastructure capable of matching the promptness with which these systems process information.
“As AI agents begin to take on more of the transaction lifecycle, they’ll need a way to pay that’s as fast and reliable as the way they already exchange data,” said Ripple in its announcement.
Technological Tools for Developers
Ripple’s integration into the x402 Foundation is designed to empower developers by providing tools for implementing these agent-driven payments through the x402 protocol. This will allow AI applications to utilize XRP and RLUSD for seamless transactions on the XRP Ledger.
Growing Ecosystem and Increased Activity
This partnership places Ripple among a diverse group of Premier Members, including notable companies such as Visa, Amazon Web Services, and the Stellar Development Foundation. The developing collaboration has already resulted in a surge of activity on the XRP Ledger, with reports indicating over one million agentic transactions processed, reflecting a rise in developer engagement and the adoption of AI-based payment systems.
Linux Foundation’s Role and Governance
The Linux Foundation has also formalized the governance of the x402 Foundation, which will oversee the protocol’s evolution. Under this governance model, a variety of stakeholders – including developers, financial institutions, and cloud providers – will be able to influence the protocol’s direction, promoting a collaborative approach to developing payment standards for autonomous software.
With Ripple’s ongoing initiatives, including the launch of the XRPL AI Starter Kit and the XRPL AI Hub, the company is positioning itself to play a pivotal role in the future landscape of AI payments and blockchain technology.
