Solana Surges Towards $100 After Breaking Key Moving Averages

Solana’s price has experienced a significant surge, climbing 25% over the past week and briefly reaching $93.39 on August 21. This increase comes as the cryptocurrency market sees a general short squeeze, allowing SOL to break above its key moving averages.

Market Movement and Breakdown

As of the latest updates, Solana was trading around $92, marking a 5% increase for the day after fluctuating between $87.57 and $93.39. The recent price action indicates a decisive breakout from a trading range that had kept SOL stable since June, surpassing resistance levels of $76–$78. This positive movement reflects a shift in market structure, transitioning from a series of lower highs to a higher high.

Factors Influencing the Price Surge

The recent rally is attributed to a broader cryptocurrency short squeeze that has seen over $4 billion in bearish positions liquidated within 48 hours. Notably, Solana’s price has returned to levels not seen since May, where previous sellers defended the area between $94 and $98.

Additionally, the surge has been supported by the recent partnership announcement between Shinhan Asset Management and the Solana Foundation. This collaboration aims to develop a Korean won-denominated tokenized bond fund, expanding Solana’s reach within institutional finance.

Technical Analysis and Overbought Concerns

While the daily chart indicates a strong breakout, it also reveals that Solana’s 14-day relative strength index (RSI) has reached 81.74, signaling that SOL is in an overbought condition. This suggests a potential need for price consolidation before any further upward movement can occur. Currently, SOL trades well above its 200-day moving average of $81.18.

Future Price Predictions

Market analysts have identified key levels of support and resistance as SOL approaches the critical $100 mark. There is significant liquidity between $93 and $95, and a break above this threshold could predict further gains. Conversely, a close below $90 might lead to a revisit of lower support levels around $87 and $88.

Traders are eyeing potential targets with one analyst suggesting $120 could be attainable should SOL continue its bullish momentum.
