Shinhan Asset Management Partners with Solana to Develop Tokenized Fund

Shinhan Asset Management Collaborates with Solana for Tokenized Fund

South Korea’s Shinhan Asset Management has signed a four-party memorandum of understanding (MOU) to explore the development of a Korean won tokenized investment fund using the Solana blockchain. The agreement, established on August 21, 2026, includes participation from the Solana Foundation, tokenization platform Etherfuse, and decentralized exchange Orca.

Objective of the Collaboration

This pilot initiative aims to test the complete workflow of a won-denominated tokenized investment fund, encompassing phases such as investor verification, issuance, distribution, and on-chain liquidity. Each partner has dedicated roles; for instance, Etherfuse is responsible for providing the necessary infrastructure for tokenization, while Orca will assist in designing the liquidity systems for testing the distribution workflows.

Regulatory Framework and Future Plans

The proof of concept aligns with the anticipated amendments to Korea’s securities laws, which are meant to take effect in early 2027. Under these new regulations, which the National Assembly approved earlier this year on January 15, tokenized securities will be recognized, enabling tools for regulated token fund creation.

Shinhan Asset Management aims to create a product that would primarily invest in short-term Korean won bonds while targeting overseas institutional investors. Although the participants have not revealed details concerning the fund’s size or expected yields, the initiative remains in the testing stage without a confirmed public launch date.

Technical Features of the Solana Blockchain

Utilizing Solana is a strategic decision due to its low transaction fees and rapid settlement capabilities, which are imperative for facilitating frequent subscription and redemption transactions. However, it is important to note that these technical features do not bypass the need for compliance with securities registration, custody, and investor protection stipulations.

Broader Context in the Crypto Market

Current reports suggest that the tokenized real-world asset market is valued at approximately $36 billion, with projections estimating that it could reach as high as $30 trillion by 2030. However, these estimates should be interpreted as forecasts rather than assured outcomes.

The adoption of tokenized assets is showing gradual growth, and the results from this ongoing proof of concept, along with Shinhan’s other blockchain collaborations, will likely guide future infrastructure decisions once the regulatory framework is fully in place.
