SNDK Stock Perpetuals Reach Record $1.73 Billion in Open Interest

SNDK Stock Perpetuals Reach Record $1.73 Billion in Open Interest

On August 17, 2026, the open interest for Sandisk (SNDK) stock perpetuals surged to a staggering $1.73 billion, marking it as the largest equity-linked perpetual trade in the crypto market. This significant growth highlights the increasing popularity of SNDK perpetual contracts compared to its peers.

A Significant Spike in Trading Volume

The SNDK perpetual contracts recorded a remarkable 24-hour trading volume of $2.51 billion, which is nearly eight times the comparable volume of $320 million seen in Micron’s perpetuals during the same period. This volume ranked SNDK fourth among all perpetual assets, surpassed only by Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana.

Competition Among Stock-Linked Perpetuals

Following SNDK, SK Hynix (SKHX) perpetuals saw their open interest rise to $1.35 billion, tightening the gap significantly from earlier reports. Close behind, SpaceX-linked SPCX perpetuals registered an open interest of $967.7 million. The latest figures illustrate SNDK’s position as 1.3 times the size of SKHX and 1.8 times that of SPCX.

Factors Behind the Trading Surge

The surge in SNDK’s trading activity aligns with a positive performance in Sandisk’s underlying shares, which closed the U.S. session on August 14 at $1,641.11, reflecting a daily increase of 7.37%. Notably, around 21 million shares changed hands during this session.

Sandisk has been active with major corporate announcements, including a fiscal fourth-quarter revenue of $8.97 billion, which is a 51% increase sequentially, and a net income of $6.90 billion. Additionally, the company has initiated a share repurchase program with an increased authorization of $14 billion.

Market Makers and Open Interest Dynamics

As the SNDK stock perpetual market expands, traditional market makers have also increased their involvement. Jane Street Group disclosed a 5% beneficial ownership of Sandisk shares, amounting to approximately 7.41 million shares. This stake signifies a notable presence in the derivatives landscape, although it does not imply a directional investment strategy.

Future Outlook for SNDK Perpetuals

Moving forward, market participants will monitor whether SNDK can sustain its open interest lead amid fluctuations in the equity market. With SKHX narrowing the gap, SNDK’s dominance as the largest equity perpetual remains at stake. The high open interest figures indicate strong trader engagement, but they do not clarify the overall market sentiment – whether traders lean bullish or bearish. This rapid evolution reflects the dynamic nature of leveraging within these markets.
