Crypto VC Focuses on Quantum-Ready Infrastructure by 2027

Investors Adjust to Quantum Threats in Cryptocurrency

As the cryptocurrency landscape evolves, Moon Pursuit Capital founder Utkarsh Ahuja has announced that crypto venture capitalists will begin to prioritize quantum-ready infrastructure as they prepare for developments heading into 2027. This shift comes amid a significant global VC investment trend, which totalled $227.4 billion in the second quarter of 2026, though this marks a decline from the previous quarter’s record of $332.9 billion.

Emerging Trends in Venture Capital Investments

The latest report from KPMG reveals that while venture capital funding is generally robust, the majority of the capital is directed towards large companies focusing on AI and advanced technologies. Notably, in Q2 2026, nearly 64% of global VC investment was allocated to US companies, which raised $144.9 billion across 3,644 deals.

Preparing for Quantum Security Risks

Ahuja stresses the importance of acknowledging quantum risks in advance of their materialization. He explained, “I think quantum is going to force crypto investors to think much further ahead than they traditionally have.” The timeline for when quantum computers will be capable of breaking existing encryption remains uncertain. However, the need for upgrades to blockchains and wallets could take years, making immediate preparations crucial.

Strategic Investments in AmericanFortress

Moon Pursuit recently co-led a seed round of $8 million for AmericanFortress, a company developing a quantum-resistant security system for blockchain wallets. This investment aims to facilitate a smoother transition for existing infrastructure, which Ahuja believes is vital for the future. “We were interested in the practicality of migration and the fact that the technology is designed to work with infrastructure that already exists,” he noted.

Sector Overlap and Investment Strategy

As the lines between investment sectors blur, Ahuja points out that crypto firms are increasingly leveraging technologies found in AI, cybersecurity, and quantum research. He indicates that while protocols and applications will still secure funding, more venture capital will target foundational systems necessary for the secure utilization of digital assets.

US Standards and Institutional Initiatives

The US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has initiated steps towards creating standards for post-quantum cryptography, advising system administrators to adapt now rather than wait for potential threats to materialize. Institutional backers in the crypto sphere, including notable firms like BlackRock and Coinbase, have committed funding to bolster security initiatives, highlighting a collective focus on addressing the challenges presented by quantum advancements.

In Conclusion

As quantum computing poses a growing threat, it is evident that both venture capitalists and blockchain developers must act proactively. The call for greater investment in quantum-ready infrastructure indicates a crucial turning point in the ongoing evolution of the cryptocurrency landscape.
