Bank Leumi to Launch Crypto Trading in Partnership with Galaxy
Bank Leumi, recognized as Israel’s largest bank, is on track to unveil cryptocurrency trading services for its customers beginning in early 2027. This initiative marks the bank as the first in Israel to offer such services, allowing clients to trade prominent cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Solana (SOL).
Details of the Service
Customers of Bank Leumi, along with users of its mobile banking unit, Pepper, will be able to buy, hold, and sell cryptocurrencies through a dedicated section within the Leumi Trade app. This landmark decision comes as part of a collaboration with Galaxy Digital, which will provide trading and related services via its GalaxyOne Institutional platform tailored for financial institutions.
Significance of the Partnership
The collaboration also involves Bank Leumi utilizing Galaxy’s custody services, previously known as GK8, to bolster its new offerings. This partnership not only enables Galaxy to gain a foothold in the Israeli banking sector but also positions Bank Leumi alongside various financial institutions that are increasingly integrating cryptocurrency features into their services.
Industry Insights
Maya Ravia, Leumi’s head of strategy, emphasized the growing significance of digital assets within the global financial landscape. Meanwhile, Lior Lamesh, CEO of Galaxy Israel, noted that early adopters in the banking sector are shaping the transition to a more open and programmable financial infrastructure.
However, specifics regarding the commercial terms, any applicable fees, or customer eligibility criteria have yet to be disclosed, as inquiries to Bank Leumi for further clarification remain open.
