Mirae Asset Infuses 50 Billion Won into Korbit Following Acquisition

Mirae Asset Group is poised to inject 50 billion won, approximately $35 million, into Korbit, the South Korean crypto exchange, just weeks after finalizing its takeover of the company.

Details of the Investment

The investment will facilitate the issuance of 10,078,614 new shares at a price of 4,961 won each to Mirae Asset Consulting. Following the acquisition, Mirae Asset Consulting holds a dominant 97.15% stake in Digital X, Korbit’s operating subsidiary. This capital injection is aimed at bolstering Digital X’s financial stability and addressing immediate funding needs.

Context of the Acquisition

This financial move comes on the heels of regulatory approval obtained on July 9, allowing Mirae to consolidate its position within the crypto exchange market. Initially, Mirae announced plans to acquire 92.06% of Korbit for approximately 133.48 billion won, later increasing its shareholding through further investments.

Korbit’s Financial Challenges

Despite reporting an increase in annual revenue, Korbit recorded a 15.4 billion won operating loss in 2025. The Fair Trade Commission reported that Korbit held a mere 0.5% market share in South Korea’s crypto trading scene, which contributed to the conclusion that this acquisition would not negatively impact competition.

Future Prospects for Digital X

The capital infusion from Mirae is anticipated to enhance Digital X’s financial framework as the company continues to navigate and restructure after years of losses. Furthermore, Korbit officially changed its corporate name to Digital X on August 11, although the trading platform will continue to operate under the Korbit name for the time being.

The Path Ahead

The scheduled payment for the newly issued shares is set for August 27, marking a crucial step in Digital X’s reinvigoration since Mirae Asset took control. As the company shifts its strategic focus, it aims to explore opportunities beyond traditional cryptocurrency trading, potentially integrating traditional finance with digital assets.
