Crypto.com Launches Tokenized Stock Derivatives Amid Equity Market Expansion
Crypto.com Enhances Offerings with Tokenized Stock Derivatives
Crypto.com is advancing its presence in the stock market by launching tokenized derivatives that track the prices of 1,500 U.S. stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs). This move is part of a broader trend where crypto exchanges are increasingly venturing into traditional financial markets.
Accessing Major U.S. Stocks and ETFs
Eligible users located in the European Economic Area and other sanctioned markets can now access products that provide exposure to popular stocks such as Apple (AAPL), Nvidia (NVDA), and Tesla (TSLA), along with ETFs including SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) and iShares Silver Trust (SLV). Trading can commence with positions starting at just $1, available for 24-hour trading.
Understanding the Products and Their Structure
These offerings are classified as derivatives issued by Foris Capital CY Limited, which reference the prices of the underlying stocks or ETFs. It is important to note that these products grant synthetic exposure to the asset’s price movements without conferring actual ownership of the shares. Consequently, holders of these products do not obtain any shareholder rights, such as voting, though they may receive dividend-equivalent adjustments.
Background and Future Growth
The underlying assets of these tokenized products are maintained by U.S. broker-dealer Alpaca. This launch is a follow-up to Crypto.com’s acquisition of Foris Capital in May 2025, a move that secured them a Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID) license to offer regulated financial products in Europe.
The Expanding Market for Tokenized Securities
Tokenized stocks have recently gained traction, reflecting a significant growth rate of approximately 600% over the past year, now valued at about $2.49 billion. Various exchanges and blockchain firms are competing to integrate equities into the crypto market, suggesting a potential market growth to $5.5 trillion by 2030, as predicted by Citi, with $2.6 trillion anticipated specifically in tokenized equities.
Comparison with Other Tokenization Models
Notably, while Crypto.com’s derivatives track a stock’s performance, there are alternative tokenization models available. Some models can transfer actual shares onto the blockchain, ensuring that ownership and shareholder rights are preserved. This distinction is prompting scrutiny from regulators and market watchdogs as tokenized securities approach mainstream adoption.
