Bitwise’s Ryan Rasmussen Highlights Circle’s Underestimated Potential Amid Stablecoin Boom
In a recent interview on CoinDesk’s Public Keys, Ryan Rasmussen, Head of Research at Bitwise, emphasized that Circle is being mispriced by investors as the market for stablecoins heads toward a multi-trillion-dollar valuation.
Future of Stablecoins
Rasmussen shared his insights on the future trajectory of stablecoins, projecting that the market could expand from its current valuation of approximately $300 billion to between $3 trillion and $5 trillion. He explained that Circle stands to benefit significantly as regulations for U.S. stablecoins become clearer, giving the company a first-mover advantage.
“I think we’ll look back five years from now and Circle will be not only a stablecoin giant, but a payment giant,” Rasmussen remarked.
Competition Landscape
Despite the growing interest from banks and consumer companies to launch their own stablecoins, Rasmussen does not see these new entrants as a major threat to Circle. He believes the overall market could grow rapidly enough for Circle to maintain its position even as competition increases. New stablecoin initiatives, like OpenUSD, further highlight the increasing involvement from established players.
Circle’s Infrastructure Expansion
Rasmussen noted that Circle is not only focusing on reserve revenue but is also developing its payments infrastructure, an area he believes is currently undervalued by investors. This infrastructure is crucial as a stablecoin-based financial system develops. He compared Circle’s potential growth trajectory to that of global payment giants such as Visa and Mastercard.
Looking Ahead
The performance of Circle’s Arc blockchain will be pivotal as it aims to extend beyond stablecoin issuance into the payments infrastructure that facilitates these transactions. Rasmussen urged investors to monitor the adoption of this infrastructure and its integration into traditional financial systems.
The key question over the coming year, according to Rasmussen, will revolve around how Circle’s economic model evolves as stablecoin adoption escalates and its new infrastructure gains momentum.
