Empery Digital Reduces Unrestricted Bitcoin Holdings by 76%
In a significant move to address its financial obligations, Empery Digital has reported a drastic reduction in its unrestricted Bitcoin holdings. According to a filing with the SEC dated August 7, 2026, the company sold 1,635 Bitcoin for approximately $102.2 million between July 1 and August 6, bringing its total holdings down to 1,279 BTC.
Details of Bitcoin Sales
Following this sale, Empery now maintains only 325 BTC as unrestricted, down from 1,375 BTC on June 30, marking a reduction of about 76%. The sale included the conversion of 954 BTC to help secure $35 million of outstanding obligations, resulting in the organization’s available unrestricted Bitcoin holdings substantially diminishing.
Debt Management and Pledge Recovery
By repaying $20 million shortly after June 30, Empery was able to regain 585 pledged BTC from its lender, decreasing its collateral requirements from 1,539 BTC to 954 BTC. This significant adjustment showcases the company’s efforts in managing its debts and improving its financial standing.
Broader Financial Strategy
The firm had previously reported a strategy focused on expanding its Bitcoin assets, holding over 4,000 BTC in August 2025. However, the recent filings depict a shift as Empery transitions towards debt reduction and strategic investments rather than increasing its crypto treasury. In the first half of 2026 alone, they incurred a loss of $56.8 million from earlier Bitcoin sales totaling 1,167 BTC.
Description of Future Plans
As part of their strategic restructuring, Empery is also eyeing property investments. The company has committed $62.1 million towards acquiring a property intended for AI data center development, emphasizing a diversification in its operational focus. The company’s due diligence period for this proposed acquisition has been extended, indicating no immediate closing of the acquisition is assured.
Cash Flow and Operations Outlook
Currently, Empery is engaging in a broader capital allocation strategy that involves a combination of share repurchases and bolstering its financial flexibility through operational cash flow management. They aim to balance their investment and operational needs amid their evolving corporate structure.
