Aztec Bridge Exploiter Transfers 300 ETH to Tornado Cash

A wallet linked to the recent exploit of the Aztec Private Rollup Bridge has transferred an additional 300 ETH to Tornado Cash, elevating the total amount sent to the mixer to 500 ETH.

The transaction, which occurred on August 8, 2026, was reported by the blockchain security firm PeckShield. The 300 ETH transferred was valued at approximately $572,000 at that time.

Details of the Transfer

PeckShield’s report detailed three separate deposits of 100 ETH each into Tornado Cash, with the total deposits from the exploiter’s wallet amounting to around $953,000.

This increase in deposits follows the significant exploit of Aztec’s Private Rollup Bridge, which resulted in losses of approximately $2.165 million in June. This incident affected a legacy product that has since been separated from the current Aztec network and its AZTEC token.

Background on the Exploit

In June, reports indicated that the Private Rollup Bridge suffered a substantial exploitation wherein assets such as 1,158 ETH, 150,000 DAI, and 0.47 renBTC were stolen. Aztec noted that this legacy bridge was not connected to their active network, which has since developed other security measures.

Increased Scrutiny on Crypto Mixers

The use of Tornado Cash has drawn attention from U.S. authorities due to its potential role in money laundering and cybercrime. While the U.S. Treasury has removed Tornado Cash from its sanctions list, scrutiny over its use continues, particularly regarding links to North Korea-related hacking groups.

The movement of 500 ETH by the exploiter reflects an ongoing pattern of attacks utilizing mixing services to obfuscate the origin of stolen funds. The prospect of further transactions from this wallet remains to be seen, as it could indicate whether additional stolen assets will be routed through Tornado Cash or other means.
