Trump Media Exits Crypto Deal with Crypto.com Amid Market Shifts

Trump Media Halts Crypto Plans

Trump Media has pulled back from its cryptocurrency initiatives, terminating a planned publicly traded company focused on accumulating Crypto.com‘s CRO token. This decision comes as the company redirects its focus toward media projects and a pending merger with a fusion energy firm.

Termination of the CRO Token Venture

The termination of the proposed venture, known as the Trump Media Group CRO Strategy, was announced jointly by Trump Media, Crypto.com, and the special purpose acquisition company Yorkville Acquisition. The firms cited prevailing market conditions and changing business priorities as the reasons behind the withdrawal.

Investments and Market Adjustments

Originally, Trump Media had engaged in significant investment in Crypto.com’s CRO token, having purchased $105 million worth in September 2025. This was part of a broader partnership plan that included the introduction of token rewards in their products. Following the recent announcement, the price of CRO fell by as much as 5%.

Scaling Back on Projects

Aside from scrapping the CRO token company, Trump Media and Crypto.com have also discontinued a separate partnership related to planned exchange-traded funds (ETFs) via Yorkville America. Rumors also suggest that Trump Media is scaling back ambitions to incorporate Crypto.com-powered prediction markets into its social media platform, Truth Social.

Shifting Business Focus

The shift away from cryptocurrency initiatives comes as the digital asset treasury market faces saturation, according to interim CEO Kevin McGurn. The company aims to intensify its focus on media, data licensing, and complete its proposed merger with fusion-energy firm TAE by the end of 2026.

BTC Holdings and Recent Transactions

Despite reducing its engagement in crypto ventures, Trump Media continues to hold a substantial amount of bitcoin, with 9,542 BTC recorded on its balance sheet at the end of Q2. Recently, the company transferred 2,628 BTC, equivalent to roughly $165 million, to addresses associated with Crypto.com.
