XRP Ledger Amendments Aim at Enhancing Privacy for $530 Million in Assets

XRP Ledger Amendments Aim at Enhancing Privacy for $530 Million in Assets

The latest software release from the XRP Ledger, version 3.3.0, is set to introduce significant amendments designed to target over $530 million in tokenized financial assets. This update proposes a feature called “Confidential Transfers,” enabling institutions to encrypt token balances and transfer amounts while allowing issuers, auditors, and regulators selective access to data.

Overview of the Confidential Transfers Feature

Included among six proposed amendments in the new release, the Confidential Transfers feature aims to provide privacy tailored for institutional users. By allowing institutions to encrypt balances and payment amounts on Multi-Purpose Tokens (MPT), the XRP Ledger seeks to facilitate transactions without exposing the size of each position and transfer, while keeping account and token type information visible.

This cryptographic method permits the ledger to verify the integrity of transactions without revealing specific financial details, thus maintaining privacy in digital asset transfers.

Recent Developments in the Tokenized Finance Sector

Ripple Labs has been aggressively positioning the XRP Ledger within the tokenized finance domain throughout 2026. Notably, in July, Aviva Investors launched a tokenized share class of its U.S. Dollar Liquidity Fund on the platform after revealing the initiative in February.

According to RWA.xyz, an on-chain data aggregator, there is currently around $1.38 billion worth of distributed real-world assets on the XRP Ledger. Among these, there is approximately $845.7 million in Real World USD (RLUSD). Other significant amounts include contributions from Ondo ($212.6 million), VERT Capital ($116.1 million), and Archax ($55.4 million).

Structure and Implications of the Amendments

While the Confidential Transfers feature aims to cater to institutional needs, it is worth noting that holders must opt into the encrypted format. Currently, it supports direct MPT payments between accounts but does not extend to trades on the built-in exchange, escrow, or checks.

The other amendments in the release include features that enable batch transaction processing, allow fee sponsorship, authorize permission delegation for specific transaction types, and facilitate dynamic changes to token properties post-issuance. Additionally, the update promises a significant reduction in memory usage by 10% to 15% and improves node synchronization rates.

Next Steps and Community Support

The amendments have not yet gone live; they require at least 80% support from trusted validators during a two-week voting period before becoming active. The success of the Confidential Transfers feature will largely depend on whether institutions like Aviva and Ondo choose to adopt this privacy option in their operations.
