PowerCompute Refinances $18M Debt Using 307 BTC Collateral
PowerCompute, a Nasdaq-listed Bitcoin treasury and mining company, has successfully refinanced $18 million in existing debt with a new Bitcoin-backed credit facility, using 307 BTC as collateral. This strategic move not only consolidates three previous loans but also significantly reduces the company’s borrowing costs.
Details of the Refinancing
The refinancing agreement was finalized through Arch Lending and was officially signed on August 3, 2026, after initiating a short-term bridge loan on July 27 to merge existing loans. The new credit facility replaces:
- An $11 million loan from Galaxy Digital
- A $5 million loan from SE and AJ Liebel that financed a 15-megawatt mining site in Oklahoma
- A $2 million loan from SE and AJ Liebel for an 11-megawatt facility in Mississippi
This new facility offers an initial interest rate of approximately 2% APR, a significant decrease from the 12% interest rate of the previous loans. By utilizing Bitcoin as collateral, PowerCompute avoids the need to sell its Bitcoin holdings, maintaining strategic exposure to potential future price appreciation.
Impact of the New Facility
The Bitcoin-backed facility is structured to renew every 30 days, with adjustments to the interest rate and pricing based on market conditions. This refinancing approach reduces the company’s overall financing expenses while bolstering its capital structure.
Bruce M. Rodgers, PowerCompute’s chairman, CEO, and president, emphasized that this refinancing allows the company to lower interest expenses while enabling continued growth in high-performance computing and artificial intelligence sectors.
Market Trends in Bitcoin-backed Lending
This transaction aligns with a trend among corporations leveraging Bitcoin as collateral rather than liquidating assets. Institutions are increasingly seeking Bitcoin-backed loans to raise capital without divesting from their cryptocurrency holdings. Earlier this year, it was reported that major players in the market, such as Coinbase and Two Prime Lending, have also observed rising demand for such financial solutions.
PowerCompute’s innovative financing approach not only exemplifies its commitment to capital efficiency but also reflects a broader movement within the industry as companies explore opportunities for financing while holding Bitcoin as a crucial part of their treasury strategy.
