Senate to Release New Draft of Crypto Clarity Act Next Week

Senate to Release New Draft of Crypto Clarity Act Next Week

Lawmakers are expected to unveil a new version of the Crypto Clarity Act as early as next week, according to sources involved in the ongoing negotiations. This move comes as the legislative effort to regulate the crypto industry appears to enter its final stages for 2026, amid a pressing timeline to secure bipartisan support.

Timeline and Legislative Progress

The Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, which seeks to establish clear regulations for the crypto market, has only a few weeks left to advance in the Senate. Insiders report that a new draft could be ready in time for Senate deliberations in late July. This anticipated draft stems from collaborative efforts by the Senate’s Banking and Agriculture Committees, aimed at addressing previous concerns and improving consumer protections.

Sticking Points Remain

Despite progress, significant hurdles persist. Key among these is the Democratic demand for an ethics provision that would bar senior government officials, including the president, from having business ties to the crypto sector. Some lawmakers have indicated they will not support the bill without a resolution to this issue. Negotiations have also suggested a proposal allowing state attorneys general to sue for ethics violations as part of the ethics framework.

Unified Efforts to Advance Legislation

The new unified version of the Clarity Act is rumored to include more than 70 pages of new text. It aims to combine insights from both Senate committees, particularly addressing concerns raised by the Agriculture Committee which previously voted strictly along party lines regarding crypto legislation.

What’s Next?

With the Senate calendar limited to three remaining weeks in July before embarking on its summer break, time is of the essence to pass the new draft. Further complicating matters, the U.S. House of Representatives must also approve any Senate version before it can be enacted into law. Additionally, any final version would require President Donald Trump’s signature, whose administration has been non-committal on the timing for proceeding with new legislation.

As discussions continue, the upcoming week will be crucial for shaping the future of the Crypto Clarity Act and determining whether it can secure the necessary support to move forward in the legislative process.
