Yellow Card Secures $40 Million to Enhance Stablecoin Payment System
Yellow Card Secures $40 Million in Funding
Yellow Card, a cryptocurrency company focused on emerging markets, has successfully raised $40 million in a strategic equity funding round. This latest influx of capital elevates the company’s total financing efforts to over $120 million since its inception in 2016.
Aiming to Transform Cross-Border Payments
The primary goal of this funding is to enhance Yellow Card’s stablecoin payment infrastructure. The co-founders, Chris Maurice and Justin Poiroux, are aiming to leverage blockchain technology to revolutionize how banks conduct cross-border transactions. Maurice stated, “The very near future state for this industry is one where payments flow directly between banks onchain, without B2B payments companies or other payment service companies in the flow at all.”
Investor Support and Company Valuation
This financing round included participation from prominent investors such as SC Ventures (the venture arm of Standard Chartered), Sony Innovation Fund, Polychain Capital, and Blockchain Capital. Although this funding has increased Yellow Card’s valuation to a level above its previous $200 million mark in 2022, it has not yet reached the $1 billion threshold, according to sources familiar with the situation, though these details were not confirmed by company representatives.
Expanding Services in Global Markets
Yellow Card plans to utilize the new capital to broaden its offerings, particularly the Global USD Accounts product aimed at businesses. This service allows companies to manage treasury operations and transact in both stablecoins and local currencies across more than 50 countries, including regions in Latin America and Asia-Pacific.
Business Growth and Market Reach
Historically, Yellow Card’s transaction volume has been fairly balanced between corporate entities and large financial institutions, but recent trends show an accelerated growth rate among banks integrating the company’s services. Since its establishment, Yellow Card has facilitated transactions exceeding $10 billion and operates under licensing agreements in 22 jurisdictions.
