Bitmine Expands Ethereum Holdings and Increases Stock Buyback
Bitmine Expands Ethereum Holdings
Bitmine, under the leadership of Chairman Tom Lee, has made significant strides by purchasing an additional 10,399 ETH last week, valued at approximately $19.1 million based on current prices. This strategic move brings Bitmine’s total Ethereum holdings to nearly 5.8 million ETH, representing about 4.8% of Ethereum’s circulating supply.
Market Context and Stock Buyback
Tom Lee attributes the recent acquisition to Ethereum’s impressive performance throughout July, where it outperformed the Nasdaq by a remarkable 2,500 basis points. This marks the biggest relative strength seen since July 2025, which Lee believes signifies improving fundamentals within the crypto market.
In addition to boosting its crypto portfolio, Bitmine has also ramped up stock buybacks, having repurchased 4.5 million shares of its common stock last week. With these buybacks, Bitmine’s total recent repurchases now amount to 16 million shares.
Future Projections
Lee mentioned the historical correlation between Ethereum’s strong performance and the company’s own stock price, indicating potential for future gains. The last time Ethereum saw similar monthly outperformance, it rallied significantly, climbing from around $2,375 to over $4,000 within a month.
As of August 2, Bitmine holds assets comprising $11.3 billion, including 209 bitcoin and $173 million in cash and marketable securities. Furthermore, the company has staked about 4.9 million ETH, representing approximately 85% of its Ethereum holdings, projecting annualized staking revenue of around $247 million via its MAVAN staking platform.
Market Reactions
Despite the positive developments, Bitmine’s shares saw a 2.1% decline in premarket trading as Ethereum’s value dipped to approximately $1,842 over the weekend.
