Ripple Expands XRPL Strategy with Investments in ZILO and Licuido

Ripple Expands XRPL Strategy with Investments in ZILO and Licuido

On August 3, 2026, Ripple announced strategic investments in two United Kingdom-based firms, ZILO and Licuido, as part of its ongoing efforts to bolster the infrastructure for tokenized funds on the XRP Ledger (XRPL).

Objectives of the Investments

The investments aim to enhance the tokenized fund infrastructure on the XRPL. ZILO has launched a platform that integrates traditional transfer agency functions with the capability for digitally native asset issuance. Meanwhile, Licuido will utilize Ripple’s investment to improve its issuance, trading, and collateral mobility services through XRPL infrastructure.

Details of the Strategic Partnerships

Ripple has not disclosed the specifics regarding the investment amounts, ownership stakes, or financial targets associated with these partnerships. Both ZILO and Licuido confirmed the funding independently.

ZILO’s platform is designed to allow institutions to manage both conventional fund units and tokenized share classes within a single operating environment, supporting various operational processes such as issuance, settlement, reconciliation, payments, and corporate actions.

Meanwhile, Licuido focuses on handling token issuance, distribution, and secondary trading of tokenized fund units, which can be used as collateral. However, it should be noted that Licuido is classified as an appointed representative of Sapeno Partners LLP, indicating that it operates under the oversight of the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

RLUSD and Fund Trade Settlement

Ripple plans to utilize RLUSD as the cash leg for delivery versus payment settlements involving these tokenized funds. This approach ensures that the tokenized asset and payment settle simultaneously on the XRPL, streamlining the transaction process. Ripple emphasizes that tokenized funds could serve as collateral from the moment of issuance.

The Broader Market Context

Since its inception, the XRPL has conducted over four billion transactions and supports more than seven million active wallets, primarily driven by general ledger activity rather than isolated institutional tokenized fund use.

In recent announcements, Ripple executive Nigel Khakoo described the investment sector as presenting a “substantial opportunity” looking ahead, although this statement should be regarded as a company forecast rather than a confirmed metric of future market behavior.

Future Developments in Capital Markets

The future steps for Ripple’s capital markets initiative will rely on technical integrations and client launches. Although ZILO has indicated it will provide a digital transfer agency solution, no deployment timelines have been shared. Licuido also stated its intentions to expand its collateral marketplace on the XRPL without outlining specific launch dates or identifying asset management partners.

As these investments unfold, they expand Ripple’s available infrastructure but do not yet guarantee market adoption, revenue generation, or liquidity outcomes subsequent to implementation.
