DEX Spot Trading Surges to 24% of CEX Volume in July 2026
DEX Spot Trading Reaches New Heights
In July 2026, decentralized exchange (DEX) spot trading volume rose to about 24% of centralized exchange (CEX) trading volume, according to data from The Block. This figure represents the highest level recorded since tracking began in 2019.
Overview of DEX Activity
The DEX-to-CEX ratio achieved approximately 24% as traders increasingly turned to permissionless markets for various assets, including memecoins and products unavailable on major centralized platforms. Notably, the increase follows a shift that began in 2025, with the ratio previously remaining below 10% for much of 2024.
The calculation, generated by dividing DEX volume by that of a selected group of CEXs, shows how DEX activity now equals about 24% of the total combined CEX volume for the covered exchanges, indicating a significant shift towards decentralized trading methods.
Major Players in the Market
According to current data from DefiLlama, several protocols dominated the DEX landscape, with Solana leading at approximately $49.86 billion in spot DEX volume, followed by BNB Chain at $31.04 billion and Ethereum at $28.84 billion. Additionally, Robinhood Chain contributed around $14.48 billion during the same period.
Impact of New Developments
Robinhood Chain emerged as a significant contributor to July’s DEX activity after the launch of multiple Uniswap protocol versions. Following its public mainnet launch, Uniswap’s various iterations supported a range of crypto assets, enabling extensive usage through Uniswap’s wallet and API.
Daily data estimated that Robinhood Chain managed about $690 million in DEX and aggregator volume over a week, peaking at almost $943.6 million in a single day, predominantly driven by Uniswap.
Historical Context and Future Projections
While July 2026’s data signifies a notable peak in the current tracking series, it’s important to acknowledge that earlier reports suggested even higher DEX-to-CEX ratios, with figures of 25% in May 2025 and 29% in June from previous methodologies. This discrepancy highlights the need for careful interpretation of historical data and methodologies used in different reports.
Looking forward, the upcoming August figures will clarify whether the DEX-to-CEX ratio can remain stable as market activities normalize and whether the momentum experienced by protocols like Solana, BNB Chain, and Ethereum can continue.
