ARK Invest Acquires $6.8 Million in Circle Shares Following New York Charter Approval

ARK Invest Acquires Circle Shares

On August 1, 2026, ARK Invest made a substantial move in the financial markets by purchasing 109,129 shares of Circle, valued at approximately $6.83 million. This acquisition comes on the heels of Circle securing a limited-purpose trust charter from the New York Department of Financial Services.

Details of the Acquisition

The investment was spread across three of ARK’s exchange-traded funds (ETFs). Specifically, the ARK Innovation ETF acquired 77,103 shares, the ARK Next Generation Internet ETF added 22,238 shares, while the ARK Fintech Innovation ETF purchased 9,788 shares.

Regulatory Milestones for Circle

Circle’s recent charter authorization allows the company to operate as Circle New York Trust, enabling it to conduct approved virtual currency activities and provide fiduciary powers. Unlike traditional BitLicense holders, Circle can also offer money transmission services without needing a separate license. This charter is a pivotal part of Circle’s strategy to gradually move the issuance of USDC to its New York trust entity.

Market Reactions

Despite the regulatory approval, Circle’s stock experienced a decline, closing at $62.61 on July 31, down 2.54%. This downturn indicates that investors did not view the New York charter as an immediate catalyst for stock recovery, following several turbulent weeks in the technology and digital asset sectors.

Future Prospects

Circle’s CEO Jeremy Allaire emphasized the significance of the New York approval, stating that it aligns with the company’s long-term goals, providing regulatory clarity for the usage of digital dollars. Circle is also expected to report its second-quarter results on August 5, which will provide further insight into the impact of regulatory advancements on its USDC activity and overall revenue.

Investment Strategy Insights

ARK’s commitment to Circle is part of a broader strategy that includes substantial investments in other technology companies, including a recent $40.2 million buy in shares of Tesla, SpaceX, and Nvidia. Additionally, the firm has made other significant purchases, while simultaneously reducing its positions in various stocks.
